You need to go back & pick up some DVD's from early to mid 80's...back when there were full-length, stand-alone percussion features.

Blue Devils, SCV, Bridgemen, Scouts & Spirit of Atlanta all had great lines. The 'meat' was different (and clean)...lots of long rolls, 3's, and accented sextuplets. Stuff you don't see a lot of (if any) these days.

Agreed. Fred Sanford did some AMAZING things with SCV. The BD Float lines were incredible too.

My main love is playing the kit but about 4 years ago I joined a Drum Corps here in the UK, called the 37th Kingswood and we're based in Bristol.

In '05 I played timps, '06 was my first year in the drumline on 4th Bass, '07 I was on 4th again (was an awesome year though). '08 I played 2nd Bass and this season I'm playing Tenors. Also for the last 2 winter seasons i've done Indoor Percussion (first top bass then tenors the winter just gone).

I LOVE IT Big smile Lol it's such a great activity, you make so many friends, learn so much about drumming and yourself. A few years ago I could never have played paradiddlediddles, triplet rolls, flams etc etc! It also has made me better at kit in terms of timekeeping; i'm definitely much more solid.

Anyway, here are a few vids of me in the drumline. I'm on 4th Bass in all of these.

Enjoy Smile

Yep.

One thing that 'irks' me these days...when a line has an exposed attack, I'll hear someone verbally keeping time in eigth notes - dat, dat, dat, dat...

Back in my day, we kept that shit to ourselves. Big smile

Very, very, nice!

Those arrangements are tastefully done. What's the deal with the blonde mallet player with the big hoo haa's?

Does she look good in person?

Baaahhh. I miss pit tits. :D

I've got some experience. I started out with the now defunct Kiwanis Kavaliers as cymbal line section leader. they folded a week before All-Days and the season started.

Also in 06, I briefly joined The Magic in their Plateline. But due to illness (and a wimpy ass mindset), I opted out a week later.

Spent the rest of 2006 marching with a small first-year Div. III Corps out of Texas by the name of Trinity. Marched 4th Bass, the cause of my later back injury. fun times with them, though. Very fun times.

In 2007 I tried one more time to get back on the Corps wagon.  I tried out and made the spot on Teal Sound's Cymbal line. Very talented group with high aspirations. I made it to the March audition camp before I had to quit due to re-injuring my back (went from 1 herniation to 2 ).

So you can say my Drum Corps experience has been less than spectacular, and all but good. I still love the sport. But I won't be making the mistake of trying out again. I age out this season, regardless.

I'm hoping to join Senior Corps (DCA) when my body improves a bit. And to instruct Cymbal Lines. I'm very proud of what I can do with four people and a pair of brass plates.
I'm Font. (There's a story behind the avatar. G'head. ASK ME!!!!)

Considering the Crimson Tide is playing for the national championship...

They have a decent line.

i dont find their stance to be particularly good looking. i think it look much cleaner when they have toes and heels together.
