this is another go at this poll, since i've been informed that the problems should be fixed.
once again: **feel free to vote more than once for each of your stick preferences, but keep it reasonable**
also, discuss why you use only one type of stick, or why you use different sticks. effect sticks are also fair game.

I use Pro-Mark 707's & Vic Firth Terry Bozzio signatures. They are both the same length & diameter, but the Bozzio's are a little heavier due to a different taper. The 707's have a round bead/tip...which in my opinion gives a better sound and response than an oval tip. The Bozzio's have a reversed triange bead/tip that gives a focused attack, and a really good "ping" on my ride cymbal.

usually i like at least a 5b, but of late i've been swinging promark portnoy sigs and really like them. i thought they'd be thin and weedy feeling but they feel like a beefy stick.

either Vic Firth 5AN or the Jack DeJohnette signature series...usually the 5AN, but since I JUST found out the JDJ are now available in nylon tip, I'm going with those again!!!

i use pro mark, vic virth and vater. i don't really pay attention to what kind they really are, as long as they are either 7a's or 5a's, i'm good.

They actually last a good long while. You might get a dud or two out of the bunch but for the price and the amount I go through it's a great deal. I rim shot my snare a lot and it will chew through a stick quickly. The rims on my 50's Slingy that I use are the straight rims with the c-clips and it's like a beaver chewing through them! It doesn't matter what stick I use, I will still chew through them!

Vater, I like their fusion, studio, New Orlean Jazz and wish to find a pair of manhattan 7A, Studio II and Super Jazz to try.
I like also what other sticks manufacturer has to offer, so I try them out. Here's pics of my Arsenal ![]() ![]() ![]() |

i have always used pro mark on my set (played vic firth while in marching band) part of the reason i chose pro mark was because i dont like to use the "mainstream" stuff that everyone always seems to go with just b/c its more of a house hold name NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE (ie remo pearl vic firth)
so i chose pro mark. i used to play american hickory models but they broke soo easy for me so i moved to the japan oak and have been much happier. i also made a switch in size. i used to play 5B up until a week ago. when my last pair broke i decided to see wat else was out there, and i came upon the 5As which just feel more right for what i play and how i play. I also prefer the nylon tip b/c my ear deffinitely prefers the sound it produces on the ride/hi hat/ tops of cymbals.

I agree with noladrumz witht he nylon tip. I can hear the difference between wood tips and nylon tips on cymbals.
I use ProMark Natural Hickory 5B Nylon Tips. I found they were easier to hold on to and create less blisters due to my bad tecnique

I'm using pro-mark but not because they rule and are the greatest sticks ever made, but because my local drum shop stocks them regularily.
As a matter of fact, the best sticks I've ever played with, were made by a Canadian company - Rimshot. The exact model was dubbed Elite Chicago and they were a bit longer then standart 16" size which I liked very much. But unfortunately the shop doesn's stock them anymore and the owner keeps telling me they're out of business, which is a shame.
Does anybody from Canada know if Rimshot still exists? Jeff?
